How to Size a Bra Correctly.

A bra size is basically determined from three measurements.

OK first things first guys! Try and get correct measurements by using the following guide or getting a free measurement at a major department store. If this isn't possible and you want to buy the gift very secretively... then don't rush to her bra draw and grab the first thing you can get your hands on. You surely know what she wears often. If she wears it often, it usually means it is comfortable and fairly close, if not exactly, to the right size. Use this as a base measurement, compare with a few other bras to be sure. Again, we recommend that you arrange a measurement or do this yourself if at all possible.

To take good measurements we recommend the aid of a good friend you feel comfortable with or your partner whilst taking these measurements. Whilst taking measurements be sure to stand, keep your arms down by your sides and your back and shoulders straight. Wear a bra that has no padding, is light but firm so that your chest is not flattened or squished. You may find that cupping your breasts gently will help as your chosen friend or partner takes the measurements.

Remember to use a soft tailors tape measure. Using the slightly rusty one obtained from the garden shed is not going to do you any favours.

1: The Under Bust:

This measurement is based on the circumference under the bust. We suggest that you gently cup your breasts in your hands, do not squeeze or flatten them against your chest. Have your partner or friend measure with the tape. The tape should be snug and not too tight.

This is the back measurement, i.e. the 34 in 34B.

Take this measurement in inches and add 4” if it was an even number, add 5” if, conversely, it was an odd number.

Remember!
Even Number:
Add 4 Inches!
Odd Number:
Add 5 Inches!

2: The Upper Bust:

Again with the aid of your partner or friend, you should cup your breasts gently. Like before hold them so that they are not flattened against your chest. The measurement is then made at the top of your chest but at a point below your armpits. See the diagram. Make a note of this measurement.

3: Full Bust:

Once again, as before with the aid of your friend or partner. You will need to be especially careful when cupping your breasts on this occasion in order to get a correct measurement. The circumference is measured whilst not letting the tape measure sag. Make a note of this measurement.

Now a little maths: Determine the difference between the Upper Bust and Full bust measurements. Use this chart to work out the cup size.
